[genetics-genomics] Don't miss "Science Storytelling" on Oct. 19! (First of a 4-part "Communicating Science" workshop series)
October 19, 2026 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Hi folks -
A campus-wide "Communicating Science" committee is organizing a four-part workshop series over the course of this academic year, and the first event in our series will kick off Research Week at NC State on Monday, Oct. 19!
Here is the info:
Telling Your Science Story: Why and How to Communicate Research Through Storytelling
Explore the science of how brains process story-driven information. Practice crafting a clear, three-sentence story about your own research in an interactive setting.
Monday, Oct. 19 from 10-11 a.m.
In-person at East Learning Lab B (D.H. Hill Jr. Library, East Wing, Room 2113)
Attendance is free, but seating is limited. Register to attend

[genetics-genomics] Seminar - GGA Plant and Animal Breeding Research Interest Group
November 2, 2026 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Hi all,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the GGA Plant and Animal Breeding Research Interest Group fall seminar.
Our speaker is Dr. Daniela Lourenco, Professor of Animal Breeding, Genetics, and Genomics at UGA.
The talk is titled "Optimizing genomic evaluations: single-step GBLUP and GWAS for large genotyped populations".This is an important and timely topic. As breeders and geneticists collect large amounts of genetic and phenotypic data, computing inverses of genetic relationship matrices and solving mixed-model equations to estimate variance components and predict breeding values pose major computational challenges.
Monday, November 2
Time: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm
Location: Jordan Hall Addition, room 1214
Thanks
Fikret Isik
